Key Responsibilities

As a Decarbonisation Electrical Engineer at Mott MacDonald, you will:

  • Lead and implement Net Zero Carbon strategies across UK projects in commercial, residential, healthcare, and infrastructure sectors.
  • Conduct carbon footprint assessments (embodied and operational) and develop actionable carbon reduction roadmaps.
  • Design and optimize renewable energy systems, including Solar PV, photovoltaic calculations, energy storage, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
  • Perform life cycle cost analysis and electrical demand analysis for sustainable power systems.
  • Integrate green design principles into electrical energy monitoring, conservation systems, and building management systems.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, subcontractors, and sustainability experts to ensure low-carbon design integration.
  • Prepare and present technical reports, client presentations, and sustainability statements for planning and compliance purposes.
  • Maintain awareness of UK sustainability regulations, including Part L, BREEAM, NABERS UK, LETI, RIBA 2030, and UKGBC frameworks.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing and team development.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in sustainability consulting, renewable energy, or net zero projects.
  • Strong understanding of Net Zero Carbon principles, UK building regulations, and climate resilience strategies.
  • Familiarity with UK sustainability certifications: BREEAM, LEED, WELL, NABERS UK.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or actively working toward chartership preferred.
  • Experience with Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Circular Economy principles.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and project management skills.
  • Experience working with global delivery teams or UK/European clients is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and MS Office suite.
