Key Responsibilities

Training & Development

  • Develop and deliver comprehensive training programs for outpatient ED coding professionals.
  • Cover CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS coding, NCCI edits, and payer-specific guidelines.
  • Create training content, SOPs, reference guides, and maintain accurate training records.

Mentorship & Coaching

  • Provide one-on-one coaching and group instruction to improve coding accuracy.
  • Support coders with complex case resolution, documentation improvement, and coding clarification.
  • Track performance through audits, quality reviews, and provide actionable feedback.

Compliance & Knowledge Management

  • Stay updated with CMS, AMA, AHA, ACEP guidelines and integrate changes into training.
  • Ensure coding practices comply with regulatory and payer-specific standards.
  • Collaborate with coding leadership to implement training strategies based on audit outcomes and performance metrics.

Collaboration & Cross-Functional Support

  • Partner with RCM teams, coding leadership, and stakeholders to improve efficiency.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for emergency department coding best practices.

Required Qualifications

  • AAPC/AHIMA Certification: CPC, COC, CCS.
  • Additional certification such as CEDC (Certified Emergency Department Coder) preferred.
  • 8+ years hands-on outpatient ED coding experience, 4+ years in training, mentoring, or quality roles.
  • Strong knowledge of US healthcare RCM systems.
  • Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems and auditing platforms.
  • Excellent attention to detail, analytical, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Life Sciences, or a related field.
