Key Responsibilities
As an L1 Security Engineer, you will:
- Monitor client security infrastructure and firewall systems for errors, threats, and service interruptions.
- Log and resolve standard to low-complexity incidents using ITSM platforms (ticketing systems).
- Provide technical support via phone, ticketing system, or chat to internal and external clients.
- Escalate unresolved issues to higher-tier security engineers or third-party vendors.
- Apply pre-approved security patches and perform basic configuration changes as part of scheduled maintenance.
- Create and update documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs) and knowledge base articles.
- Follow strict shift handover protocols to ensure continuous support coverage.
- Identify repetitive issues and suggest automation or process improvements for better service delivery.
- Participate in disaster recovery testing and security project initiatives as needed.
Core Skills & Competencies
- Basic understanding of firewall operations, network security, and infrastructure monitoring.
- Strong grasp of ITSM tools and ticket management practices.
- Working knowledge of ITIL frameworks for incident and service management.
- Clear and effective communication, both verbal and written.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on proactive issue identification.
- Team-oriented mindset and ability to work in a high-pressure, client-facing environment.
- Eagerness to learn and grow within the cybersecurity and managed services domain.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
- Up to 2 years of hands-on experience in technical support, IT infrastructure, or cybersecurity roles.
- Familiarity with basic firewall operations, security tools, or monitoring systems is an added advantage.
Preferred Certifications (Not Mandatory)
- ITIL Foundation Certification
- CompTIA Security+
- Cisco Certified CyberOps Associate / CCNA Security
- Fortinet NSE 1/2
