Responsibilities

As an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer at ExxonMobil Bengaluru, you will:

  • Support operations and maintenance through centralized engineering services for global upstream and downstream facilities.
  • Provide technical expertise ensuring compliance with industry codes, company standards, and safety requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and improve instrument reliability, availability, and cost optimization.
  • Develop and execute instrument surveillance programs, analyzing maintenance records and performance data.
  • Coordinate with EPC contractors for design and engineering deliverables; review and approve technical documents.
  • Guide junior engineers on standards, worksheets, design calculations, and bid evaluations.
  • Participate in HAZOP, SIL, classification studies, and FATs as required.
  • Support construction, pre-commissioning, and commissioning of I&C systems.
  • Execute life-cycle management of PLCs, SIS, and control systems, including upgrades and obsolescence planning.
  • Review and update technical documentation (P&IDs, control narratives, cause-and-effect diagrams).

Skills and Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation & Controls, Electrical, or Electronics Engineering (minimum GPA 6.0).
  • At least 5 years of experience in instrumentation and controls engineering in oil & gas, refining, or petrochemical sectors.
  • Hands-on expertise in selection and sizing of pressure, temperature, flow, and level instruments, as well as control and shutdown valves.
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards, local codes, and safety compliance regulations.
  • Work permit eligibility to work in India.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Safety Instrument Systems (SIS), specification sheets, and programming/configuration.
  • Exposure to complex instrument systems (machinery control, vibration monitoring, custody transfer metering, burner management systems).
  • Strong knowledge of P&IDs, cause-and-effect logic, and control system architecture.
  • Proficiency in data collection and analysis tools (SAP, Analytics for Excel, Tableau).
  • Certification in Functional Safety.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in global teams.
