Key Responsibilities

As an Assistant Mechanical Engineer (Treatment Plants) at Mott MacDonald, you will:

  • Prepare equipment layouts and civil outline drawings for wastewater and desalination systems.
  • Develop piping and valve material specifications and perform hydraulic and pump head calculations.
  • Create technical datasheets, RFQs, and technical bid evaluations for equipment and system packages.
  • Check and approve vendor drawings, GA layouts, and fabrication skid drawings for components like RO skids, UF modules, and valve racks.
  • Perform line sizing and pipe wall thickness calculations, ensuring design accuracy and efficiency.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (Process, Civil, Electrical, Instrumentation) for seamless project delivery.
  • Review and verify isometric drawings, piping layouts, and support structures.
  • Manage design documentation, follow-up with vendors, and ensure timely approval and handover.
  • Support site coordination, including preparation of as-built drawings.
  • Promote health, safety, and environmental (HSE) best practices and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Skills & Software Proficiency

  • Expertise in AutoCAD® P&ID, OpenPlant PID, SmartPlant P&ID, or OpenPlant Modeller.
  • Experience with Revit MEP, Navisworks, and Bentley ProjectWise.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PDF).
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design processes, equipment selection, and engineering documentation.
  • Knowledge of project commercial aspects, quality systems, and HSE requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized university.
  • Professional membership such as MIMechE / MIET (or working toward it) preferred.
  • Prior experience in treatment plant design, mechanical system layout, or industrial piping systems is an advantage.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and teamwork skills with attention to detail.
