Key Responsibilities
As a Barclays Software Engineer – OSS, you will:
- Design, develop, and maintain OSS infrastructure and toolchains for cloud and on-premises platforms
- Deliver high-quality, scalable, and secure software solutions using Java, Spring, and React.js
- Build front-end and back-end integrations with SQL/NoSQL databases
- Implement CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI) for automated deployments
- Apply secure coding practices including OAuth2, CSRF/XSS protection
- Drive performance optimization: JVM tuning, caching, lazy loading, and high-availability architecture
- Work with containerization & orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift)
- Ensure observability with logging, tracing, and monitoring using Grafana/ELK/SRE frameworks
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Product Managers, Designers, Engineers) for seamless project execution
- Stay updated with emerging technologies and contribute to Barclays’ tech innovation initiatives
Required Skills & Experience
- Strong programming expertise in Java (17+) and Spring Ecosystem
- Front-end skills: React.js, JavaScript, Material UI, Ant Design
- Database experience with SQL and NoSQL integrations
- Strong understanding of virtualization, containers, and Kubernetes
- Hands-on with TDD frameworks (Cypress, Playwright, Selenium)
- Knowledge of CI/CD tools – GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI
- Familiarity with observability stacks (Grafana, ELK, Prometheus)
- Experience with cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP, Hybrid Cloud)
Preferred Skills
- ELT pipeline development and data lake/warehouse integrations (Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift)
- Strong knowledge of networking domains (VXLAN, EVPN, WAN, LAN, WLAN, SD-WAN)
- Expertise in performance profiling, JVM optimization, and secure coding
- Exposure to enterprise OSS systems in large-scale financial institutions
