Summary
McKinsey & Company is seeking a Principal Software Engineer I to join Periscope, the firm’s asset-based analytics and technology platform within Marketing & Sales, in Bengaluru or Gurugram. This role is ideal for experienced software engineering leaders with 11+ years of development experience and a proven track record of architecting SaaS and customer-facing web applications. As a Principal Software Engineer, you will provide technical leadership, drive innovative enterprise software solutions, and mentor engineering teams while leveraging Python, React, Typescript, cloud infrastructure (Azure/AWS/GCP), containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and big data technologies (Spark/Databricks).

Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end software development lifecycle: requirement analysis, design, development, implementation, and support.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams, fostering innovation and talent growth.
- Design and build highly scalable B2B/B2C web applications and enterprise software solutions.
- Drive engineering best practices, including microservices architecture, CI/CD, test-driven development, code refactoring, and application security.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to align technical solutions with business objectives and competing priorities.
- Champion emerging AI, analytics, and agentic engineering practices across the Periscope technology team.
- Support Periscope’s global technology strategy by building reusable components, integrating SaaS solutions, and improving system performance.
Skills and Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent; Master’s preferred.
- 11+ years of software development experience with at least 3 years in technical or software architecture leadership.
- Hands-on expertise in Python, React, Typescript, and full-stack application development.
- Strong experience with cloud platforms (Azure preferred; AWS/GCP also acceptable).
- Proficient in container technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm charts.
- Experience with relational and document databases (SQL Server, PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, MongoDB).
- Familiarity with Big Data processing (Spark, Databricks).
- Skilled in engineering practices, including microservices, CI/CD pipelines, test-driven development, and scalable architecture.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and mentoring skills.
Preferred:
- Exposure to AI development tools and agentic engineering practices.
- Prior experience in retail, analytics, or Marketing & Sales technology platforms.
