Summary

McKinsey & Company is seeking a Knowledge Analyst – Metals Operations to join its global MetalLens team based in Gurugram, India. In this role, you will lead cost benchmarking, operational diagnostics, and performance improvement initiatives for metal industry clients, including steel, aluminum, copper, zinc, and other metals. You will work on analyzing the full production value chain, from raw materials to casting, rolling, and coating, providing actionable insights to optimize operations, reduce costs, and enhance productivity. Responsibilities

  • Conduct operational performance assessments of metal production assets globally.
  • Lead cost and benchmarking analysis across the metals value chain: raw materials, production, casting, rolling, and coating.
  • Work alongside client service teams to deliver actionable insights and recommendations to senior executives.
  • Drive problem-solving initiatives and operational improvement projects for clients.
  • Develop and maintain innovative analytics solutions and methodologies for the MetalLens team.
  • Support business development efforts, generating new client opportunities and maintaining relationships with existing clients.
  • Lead internal and external knowledge initiatives, including presentations at industry conferences.
  • Mentor junior colleagues and contribute to team growth and development.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, competitor offerings, and emerging technologies in metals operations.

Skills and Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Metals Operations, or related field.
  • 2+ years of industry experience in metals, with focus on production, process engineering, continuous improvement, technical consulting, or maintenance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and other business software.
  • Experience in industrial operations diagnostics and benchmarking.
  • Ability to work independently in senior client settings, presenting complex insights to executives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; additional languages are a plus.
