Responsibilities
As a Magma Simulation Engineer at Caterpillar, you will:
- Design, model, and detail casting and forging components for transmission, lower powertrain, and engine systems.
- Select, modify, and remodel components using Caterpillar’s engineering standards and databases.
- Perform Magma Simulation and interpret results for product optimization.
- Collaborate with agency engineers and cross-functional global teams.
- Apply knowledge of manufacturing processes, casting concepts, heat treatment, and inspection techniques.
- Prepare and validate engineering documentation including speed charts, dimensional drawings, and installation drawings.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Technical Expertise:
- Proficiency in Pro-E product family for design and detailing.
- Strong knowledge of casting and forging processes.
- Hands-on experience in Magma Simulation and interpreting outputs.
- Familiarity with Cat Engineering tools (HVC, EDS, TC Engineering, Windchill).
- Domain Knowledge:
- Transmission and engine systems/components (cases, covers, manifolds, gears, shafts, etc.).
- GD&T and tolerance stack-up (ASME Y14.5).
- Casting surface texture requirements and inspection methods.
- Professional Skills:
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Organizational and interpersonal skills for working with global teams.
- Initiative and accountability in engineering projects.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with visualization tools like Vis-Mockup.
- Exposure to foundry operations and manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of complex casting components such as crankshafts, camshafts, and torque converter housings.
- Any direct casting foundry experience is a plus.
