Summary

Caterpillar Inc., a global leader in construction and mining equipment, is hiring a Senior Engineer – Electro-Mechanical Integration in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. This role focuses on the design, packaging, and integration of electro-mechanical components such as inverters, DC-DC converters, and electric drivetrain systems for Caterpillar machines.

This is an excellent opportunity for engineering professionals with 10–15 years of experience (Bachelor’s) or 8–12 years (Master’s) in mechanical design, power electronics packaging, and structural/sheet metal engineering. As part of Caterpillar’s engineering team, you’ll play a key role in developing next-generation electric drivetrain systems, supporting NPI, NTI, cost reduction, and current product maintenance programs.

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Electro-Mechanical Engineer at Caterpillar, you will:

  • Lead mechanical packaging and integration of electric drivetrain components (inverters, DC-DC converters, PDUs, switchgear).
  • Perform sheet metal and structural design using Creo with strong emphasis on manufacturability (DfM).
  • Execute conceptual designs, verification, and validation using engineering analytics.
  • Conduct thermal management, clearance/creepage calculations, and CFD/static/dynamic analysis.
  • Support prototype, pilot, and production builds including audits and reviews.
  • Apply GD&T, bolted joint analysis, and FEA tools to deliver robust design solutions.
  • Collaborate with global teams, suppliers, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide technical mentoring to junior engineers.
  • Drive innovation in electro-mechanical packaging and power electronics integration.

Required Skills & Expertise

  • Strong background in electro-mechanical packaging and integration.
  • Proficiency in Creo (3D modeling, sheet metal design).
  • Knowledge of power electronics products (inverters, converters, PDUs, LV/MV switchgear).
  • Strong expertise in sheet metal/structural materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Hands-on experience with static, dynamic, thermal, and CFD analysis.
  • Deep understanding of GD&T, BOM structures, and manufacturing drawings.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, design reviews, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience in designing electro-mechanical systems for heavy machinery or vehicles.
  • Proven record in end-to-end product design and integration.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
