Key Responsibilities

  • Provide marine pilotage services for various vessel types including VLCCs, Capesize tankers, and cargo ships at QatarEnergy-operated ports and terminals.
  • Navigate vessels through approach channels, harbor zones, and Single Point Mooring (SPM) locations.
  • Ensure safe vessel berthing, unberthing, and anchorage using best marine practices and strict adherence to international maritime regulations.
  • Maintain expert understanding of port operations policies, local marine regulations, and cargo handling procedures.
  • Collaborate closely with port authorities, vessel crews, and terminal operations to ensure efficient marine logistics.
  • Act as a Loading Master when required, overseeing safe cargo transfer operations at oil terminals.
  • Lead safety initiatives and risk assessments within the marine pilotage domain.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, and other maritime compliance requirements.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of seafaring experience as Officer of the Watch, with at least 5 years as Chief Officer or Master on large tankers (VLCC or Capesize).
  • At least 5 years of experience as Marine Pilot handling a wide range of vessels. (Or 3 years Pilot + 2 years Loading Master).
  • In-depth knowledge of:
    • Tanker terminal operations (OCIMF/SIGTTO guidelines)
    • International maritime laws and port regulations
    • Harbor navigation, cargo handling, and marine safety protocols
  • Proven ability to lead operations independently under pressure.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills to coordinate with multicultural teams and port stakeholders.
  • Excellent planning, analytical, and administrative abilities.
  • QP English Language Proficiency Level L5 (or equivalent)

Educational Qualifications

  • Master Mariner (FG) Class I certification – Mandatory
  • Strong grounding in international marine regulations and industry standards
