Mott MacDonald is seeking an experienced Principal Cost & Carbon Analyst to lead sustainable cost and carbon data analysis for large-scale infrastructure projects. Key Responsibilities

As a Principal Cost & Carbon Analyst, you will:

  • Capture, validate, and curate cost and carbon data at various project stages, including tender submissions, two-stage awards, and project completion.
  • Review contractor-submitted cost data against the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) to ensure accurate allocation and tagging.
  • Maintain and manage cost and carbon databases, ensuring normalization for inflation and asset standard updates.
  • Analyze project data and technical drawings to extract relevant cost and carbon information.
  • Allocate costs and apply yardsticks to project assets accurately.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders for accurate data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Prepare detailed reports, presentations, and sustainability statements for internal and client use.
  • Identify trends and insights to support decision-making, efficiency improvements, and risk mitigation.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations for cost and carbon reporting.
  • Continuously improve data capture processes and methodologies.

Skills & Qualifications

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Engineering, or Construction discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in cost data analysis, carbon reporting, or sustainability consulting.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools (Excel, SQL, Python, PowerBI, R).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to follow structured processes and maintain data accuracy.
  • Collaborative approach with the ability to work across multidisciplinary project teams.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations for cost and carbon reporting.
  • Experience in Water, Environment, Transport, or Energy sectors.
  • Expertise in Cost and Contract management for infrastructure projects.
  • Hands-on experience with estimating software such as CCS Candy or Benchmark Estimating System.
  • Knowledge of carbon footprinting, LCA, or sustainable project metrics.
