Key Responsibilities
Core Data Governance
- Define, enforce, and maintain data governance policies, standards, and best practices.
- Collaborate with data owners, stewards, and custodians to ensure accountability and compliance.
- Monitor data quality metrics and resolve data integrity issues.
- Support regulatory compliance (GDPR, CCPA, SOX) and proper data handling.
- Implement data access controls and classification to protect sensitive information.
Data Stewardship
- Serve as a liaison between business and technical teams, aligning data definitions and usage.
- Maintain business glossaries and consistent metadata across systems.
- Identify and resolve data quality issues with stakeholders.
- Track data lineage and manage lifecycle processes including retention and archival.
Data Catalog Maintenance
- Maintain and curate the enterprise data catalog, ensuring accurate metadata.
- Onboard new datasets with proper tagging, lineage, and stewardship contacts.
- Promote catalog adoption through training and self-service enablement.
- Audit and update catalog entries to remove redundancy or outdated data.
Skills and Attributes
- Expertise in data governance frameworks, lifecycle management, and metadata standards.
- Strong knowledge of data quality tools, profiling, cleansing, and monitoring techniques.
- Familiarity with data classification, lineage tracking, and access control policies.
- Understanding of regulatory compliance requirements (GDPR, CCPA, SOX).
- Proficiency in SQL and data warehousing concepts.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and documentation skills.
- Detail-oriented, analytical, and committed to data accuracy and governance compliance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Data Management, Computer Science, or related field; Master’s preferred.
- 3–5 years of experience in data governance, data stewardship, or data management roles.
- Hands-on experience with enterprise data catalogs like Collibra, Alation, Informatica, or Microsoft Purview.
