Key Responsibilities

As a Cost Estimator at Ford in Chennai, you will:

  • Analyze and estimate costs for Electrified Powertrain and Underbody Systems including:
    • Engine and motor cooling
    • Exhaust and mounting systems
    • Thermal systems, brakes, alloy wheels, shock absorbers
    • Drive shafts, EPAS, transmission, transfer cases
  • Conduct cost analysis for EV-specific components like:
    • CVTMS, E-Drive, Air Suspensions
    • OHX, HPBAM modules
  • Perform Competitive Benchmarking to propose cost reduction strategies
  • Support supplier negotiations via Cost Gap Analysis
  • Collaborate with Purchase teams to establish program target costs
  • Assist with Forward Model Costing and financial evaluations
  • Drive cost localization initiatives and CAPEX assessments
  • Monitor engineering change impacts on cost and investment
  • Recommend and track cost reduction opportunities in collaboration with Engineering & Procurement

Required Skills & Qualifications

Educational Background

  • Bachelor’s Degree in:
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Production Engineering
    • Automobile Engineering
    • Polymer Science (or equivalent)

Professional Experience

  • 3–8 years of experience in:
    • Automotive OEM or Tier-1/Tier-2 ancillaries
    • Cost estimation and competitive analysis
    • Powertrain or underbody systems
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in EV product development is preferred

Technical Competencies

  • Understanding of:
    • ED&T, CAPEX, tooling, and manufacturing cost structures
    • Thermal Management Systems and EV commodities
  • Strong financial analysis skills (payback, business cases, ROI)

Tools & Software

  • Proficient in:
    • Microsoft Excel (Advanced)
    • Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Familiarity with cost modeling and supplier negotiation platforms

Soft Skills

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management
  • Proactive mindset with critical thinking abilities
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
